“This work is a video response to an online art residency via the arts organisation CAMP. The artist leading the sessions was Martha Wilson a pioneering feminist artist who explores her female subjectivity through role-playing, costume transformations, and “invasions” of other people’s personae.
During my residency participation Martha asked the group to make a piece of performative work.
I created ‘This Loving Feeling’ as a way of exploring impromptu role play and aspects of what a relationship may present and comprise off over time. I decided to record the piece in the bedroom because I was fascinated by the outside tree reflecting its colour, shape and movement shadow which filtered through the lace voile window onto the interior wall. I instructed my Polish partner who often misunderstands our conversations due to a language difference to follow my instructions which I presented to him in a very demanding, frustrated, and irritated way.
Often the work I make is exaggerated sometimes laboured with playful undertones. Originally, dismissed having any audio present yet upon hearing the piece I decided to keep it mainly because it amused me and yet to an outsider not knowing our relationship it would present differently.”
