Milly Gee

Milly Gee is a North West artist based in Salford. They work primarily with raw material, with a particular focus on Sodium Chloride (salt). Their practice is research driven and process led, exploring the physical and conceptual potentials of salt through sculpture and sound art.

Installations embody a creative understanding of salt’s broader environmental and cultural contexts. Interest in industrial and mining environments influences the materials used and the visuals of the work, manifesting in a liminal, brutalist aesthetic.

By engaging with the chemistry and aesthetics of industrial and mining environments, Gee’s practice examines how materials are shaped, controlled and altered, and the wider ecological and social resonance of these actions in the landscape. In exploring these strands their work positions salt as dynamic – a retentive and reactive force.
