Preview Saturday 18th November 2-4pm
An exhibition of contemporary art made at #neostudios during the 2017 neo:residency Award
Rowan’s current practice conveys an amalgamating ambiguity of space, place and time, whilst questioning perceptions of the evolving urban landscape. Using ingenuity within the etching process to attain intricate textural marks whilst travelling. He fabricates an atmospheric, transient aesthetic precipitating an element of the psyche. Positive and negative space is exerted as a reference to the theories of place and non-place in conjunction with ideologies of smooth and striated space. Through combining this with an interest in psychogeography, Rowan applies facades, architectural structures and textural aesthetics to depict both his psychological and physical experience when traversing within the dense urban environment.

“When reflecting on the residency with neo: I am filling with such beautiful, fond memories. The atmosphere within the studios and print room kept me creating art until the early hours of the morning, most nights of the week. Friendly faces greeted me every morning and always made me feel like part of their family, always interested in what I was doing and always had such positive advice. I feel I achieved some of my best work in those studios, my creative inspiration on full force due to the positive environment. The support from the University of Bolton was incredible, the tutors were extremely helpful and their facilities are excellent. Combined with the incredibly generous materials budget from GreatArt, the sense of relief and freedom had such a magical impact on my attitude and my work.”
