Photo Etching

May 2013

An image taken on a mountain in Israel over looking the Jordanian border. Etching the image on to copper deepens the details, transforming the information to cracks on the surface or landscape.
Returning to conflicted landscapes and sites of trauma, I am interested in the significance of mark making and the way it manifests itself into matter.

Wood, concrete, cork, orange G-clamps, green refuse bag & yellow survey line spray paint
240 x 240 x 60
may 2013

Concrete forms cast on glossy plastic sheets. Cork grouped together with cable ties. A line sprayed on a refuse back with paint commonly used to make marks in construction. Dowelling and wood create a structure with no fixing simply relying on gravity to support the components, the structure is leant against the wall. Orange G-clamps used to counter warping orange referring to a dealing with compromise and developing a motif in form.

'27000 Pound Coins' documents the failure to produce a work for my final degree. The document explores the relationship between the image of an empty degree exhibition space to the narrative of the events surrounding my failure.

2012

A pair of wartime black-out curtains found at Ackworth School, West Yorkshire. The curtains had been hung in the windows of the Art room before being thrown into the bin, I found them during a residency at the School.

The curtains capture an image of themselves, the slow passing of time, in an extended analogue exposure of (approximately) 70 years.
