Fire Ething (Fire, acid and water on paper)

Description:
A deceptiveness of composed and quiet nature of pictorial appearance conceals the violence inflicted in the process of its making. As the images seen in my work are not by a pigment sitting on a surface, as of a conventional print, but by a technique normally associated with secret correspondence used in the past, called ´┐Żaburi-dashi´┐Ż in Japanese.
As the secret method of writing an illicit correspondence between lovers, or a forbidden political message, the invisible Ink made with lemon juice is used to render images, slightly altering the delicate balance of paper. Then works are exposed to fire. The fire etches the image into paper as an integral part of its structure, which are then washed through in water to rid of the trace of acidity.
The resulting image contains a level of fragility and notion of death within it by nature.
